The latch and handle each have a small attached oval plate. Perhaps it was originally used for a gate. The gap for the door is set at 1 1 4". Lock box face measures 4l x 1w". The box measures 2 1 8h x 3 1 4l x 1 2d". We clean, oil and test all of our lock boxes to make sure that they are fully functional. This is an antique item and may show wear
